Hibiscus, particularly Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, is used in traditional hair preparations made from its flowers and leaves. The plant is commonly incorporated into herbal masks, infused oils, and conditioning mixtures, and its plant material contains compounds that contribute to the slippery, conditioning feel associated with many botanical preparations. Hibiscus extracts have also demonstrated hair-growth-related activity in preclinical research, including animal studies. That evidence is preliminary, however, and does not establish hibiscus as a clinically proven hair-growth treatment in humans.
Note: The powder is highly pigmented and can easily stain surfaces. Mix wisely and with caution.
